Sculptra: Learn About This Popular Surgery-Free Alternative to the Brazilian Butt Lift

Here at Skin Shop medSpa in Houston, Texas, we’re passionate about providing you with the best and safest solutions to your cosmetic concerns so you can maximize your confidence. If you’re insecure about the appearance of your buttock area, our expert team can help.

How Sculptra works

Sculptra® is an injectable cosmetic treatment containing poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA), which stimulates the production of your own collagen for long-lasting results. It’s considered a biostimulatory filler.

Biostimulatory fillers differ from traditional dermal fillers by stimulating the production of your own collagen to enhance volume — rather than the increased mass being created by the filler itself. After your body metabolizes Sculptra, no foreign substance is left behind to linger in the skin.

The most common usage of Sculptra is to restore facial volume loss, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles in the process. However, one of our patients’ favorite Sculptra application sites is the buttock area — as a safe, surgery-free, and highly effective alternative to surgical augmentation procedures like the Brazilian butt lift (BBL)

Brazilian butt lift downsides

The Brazilian butt lift procedure has gained immense popularity in the last decade, but what actually is it? During a BBL, your cosmetic surgeon uses fat grafts from other areas of your body and injects it directly into your hip and buttock area to lift and augment your backside.

Many people opt for a BBL over other butt augmentation procedures like implants or silicone injections because the BBL method uses your own fat instead of a foreign substance. However, this is not always as safe as it sounds.

BBLs carry risk of fat embolism, which is when fat goes directly into your bloodstream and travels to vital organs. This can cause complications and potential fatality, especially when people cut corners and try to visit cheaper, less reputable surgeons.

In addition to the risks associated with fat harvesting, we find our patients can be wary of going for a BBL because it’s an invasive procedure that requires a lot of downtime — including not sitting directly on your butt area for up to eight weeks (apart from short bathroom breaks)!

Those considering a BBL are also sometimes concerned that the augmentation may be too large and unnatural looking. For these individuals and those concerned with all the aforementioned downsides, we highly recommend opting for a Sculptra butt lift instead.

Why we love Sculptra enhancements

We love Sculptra because in all areas of the body, it enhances volume in a way that looks completely natural. It’s pretty much impossible to tell from an outside perspective that someone “had something done” when they get Sculptra, and the gorgeous results are still undeniable.

When injected to the buttocks area, Sculptra diminishes the appearance of cellulite while lifting and rounding your backside in a way that’s always flattering to your natural shape. And remember, the increased volume is your own collagen that your body produced… isn’t that cool?

What to expect from the procedure

During your Sculptra treatment, we will apply topical as well as injectable numbing agents to your treatment area. There’s no need for general anesthesia. You’ll typically be in and out of the office in under an hour, and there’s virtually no downtime — especially compared to a BBL.

One thing to keep in mind is that because Sculptra is not immediately adding mass to your buttocks, but triggering your own collagen production, results will develop slowly over time. You’ll start seeing results around one month post-treatment, with full results three to six months later.

Maximizing your Sculptra results

While our advice will be customized to you, we generally recommend two to three treatments, with each Sculptra session spaced around four to six weeks apart. You can expect your natural but noticeable butt lift results to last up to two years.

Aftercare is relatively easy. We’ll recommend avoiding intense physical activity for a few days, as well as massaging the area regularly after injection.
