PRP and Microneedling: A Winning Combination for More Youthful Skin

Your skin withstands a fair amount of abuse in its protective role and the effects tend to be more visible in highly exposed areas, such as your face and neck. To fight back against aging skin, estheticians have long understood that the best methods are those that encourage rebuilding and repair from within. Through microneedling, coupled with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, we’re able to take advantage of every natural resource at our disposal to help breathe new life into aging skin.

At Skin Shop medSpa, Dr. Tiffany Su and her expert team pride themselves on providing clients in the Houston, Texas area with the latest, evidence-based tools to revitalize and refresh aging skin. They’re tapping the human body’s incredible power of renewal to dial back the years in your skin.

Here’s a look at how our microneedling technique, combined with PRP therapy, delivers a powerful one-two punch to make you look as young as you feel on the inside.

Microneedling at work

Microneedling is a technique in which Dr. Su creates tiny micro-injuries across the surface of your skin in order to stimulate a healing response in your tissue. When your body senses damage, it quickly responds with collagen to help shore up what it registers as compromised tissue. As the primary protein responsible for the elasticity and tone in your skin, collagen is the exact resource we’re trying to tap through our microneedling technique.

But these micro-injuries are small enough that your body’s healing response is a mild one, so it creates enough collagen fibers to lift the surface of your skin, without creating so much that tougher scar tissue develops.

On its own, our microneedling technique delivers excellent results, lifting sagging skin and smoothing out wrinkles. It also works to fill in old acne scars, creating an evener tone and complexion in your skin.

Tapping the power of platelets

While microneedling alone is effective, when we add PRP therapy to the anti-aging mix, we’re able to provide natural and sustainable results that last.

Your platelets are mostly known for their ability to clot your blood, but their role doesn’t stop there. Your platelets also contain powerful growth factors, or proteins, that help your tissue rebuild and repair itself on a cellular level. As part of their rebuilding efforts, they call in additional resources to help with regeneration, including powerful stem cells, to rebuild your skin from the inside out.

To tap these powerful platelets, we draw some of your own blood and separate out the platelets in a centrifuge. We then mix this platelet concentrate back in with your plasma and inject your skin directly.

The road to younger-looking skin

After your microneedling with PRP treatment, you’re free to return home. You may experience some discomfort or mild redness in your skin, but this usually resolves itself in a few days. In the meantime, your body is going to work to rebuild your skin and your results will take shape over the weeks following your treatment.

After about 6-12 weeks, you’ll realize your optimal results, which are yours to maintain until age catches up with you again.
