Hair restoration is a nonsurgical technique that triggers your body’s healing response to stimulate new growth. In the past, surgical hair transplants were the only tried and true method to replace hair loss. This approach is invasive, costly, and often requires extensive downtime.
At Skin Shop medSpa, Dr. Su and the team offer multiple nonsurgical approaches to hair restoration that stimulate dormant hair follicles for long-term growth. Nonsurgical hair restoration can encourage thicker, longer hair without the risks often accompanying surgical treatment options.
Dr. Su and the team recommend two types of nonsurgical hair restoration at Skin Shop medSpa:
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a component in your blood. Platelets are the solid portion, while plasma is the liquid. PRP contains growth factors and proteins that stimulate healing. When injected into the scalp, PRP may help activate dormant hair follicles and promote new hair growth.
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a more potent version of PRP. Along with growth factors, proteins, and other regenerative substances, PRF contains stem cell-based tissues that may help intensify PRP’s healing properties for faster hair growth.
After an initial consultation, Dr. Su and the team can determine which type of nonsurgical hair restoration is right for you.
Dr. Su and the team may recommend hair restoration at Skin Shop medSpa if you have:
PRP and PRF hair restoration are only effective for those with dormant yet healthy hair follicles. It cannot activate follicles that are unable to produce new hair growth.
Nonsurgical hair restoration takes about 30-60 minutes and requires no downtime. When you arrive, Dr. Su draws your blood to collect the PRP or PRF. Next, she places the blood in a centrifuge, which spins the sample to isolate the substance. PRP and PRF share the same collection process but do not contain anticoagulants.
Once Dr. Su collects your PRP or PRF, she injects it into your scalp to stimulate new growth. Most patients require a series of treatments, spread out a few weeks apart, to achieve their desired results. Most individuals see improvements in their hair growth within six months.
